HSV first opened its doors to the public in February 1988 after unveiling the first ‘Walkinshaw’ at the Sydney Motor Show in 1987.
The establishment of the partnership between General Motors Holden and the British Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) group was a major coup not just for performance car connoisseurs, but also for the local industry. The operation began with a clear set of goals and a carefully structured business plan. The aim was simple – to maintain the tradition of Holden-based performance sedans originally established by Peter Brock’s Holden Dealer Team.
Over the years, HSV built an array of modified vehicles, most of which were based on Holden models powered by either Holden or GM sourced V8 engines. For 30 years HSV mastered a very specific vehicle fit for Australian tastes and purposes: the V8, four-door performance sedan that people aspired to own.
In 2017 a new agreement was struck between GM Holden and HSV to bring a whole new breed of vehicles to customers in Australia and New Zealand from across the GM empire. The company is now in an exciting era of vehicle enhancement and re-engineering that sees the same entrepreneurial spirit that has driven HSV for over 30 years and will continue to guide the company for the next 30 years and beyond.
The AEFI Management Committee is made up of a variety of industry representatives including conservation biologists, tourist operators, research scientists, accountants, public servants, Indigenous teachers, farmers and business executives. This combination allows AEFI to manage its reserves and wildlife with a broad range of experiences, skills and knowledge on hand.
We manage or assist in the management of important habitats to ensure that the wildlife within is protected. We are involved in the management of over 3000 hectares of land as well as conducting research and captive breeding to improve the future for Australian endangered wildlife.
We currently reach thousands of Australians and internationals who want to help save Australian wildlife, and our reach is rapidly building. With your help, we will continue grow and protect endangered ecosystems and wildlife across Australia.
We work with a range of partners to educate, inform and conserve. This includes government agencies, universities, and volunteer and community groups. By working together with other organisations we can share expertise and resources to increase the effectiveness of our conservation work, and it’s sustainability.
The Zoo and Aquarium Association is the peak body representing the zoo and aquarium community throughout Australasia. The Association has 99 member organisations; 94 of these are zoos, aquariums and museums with the remainder consisting of universities, TAFEs and government departments.
The Association manages the coordination of breeding programs and sets the level of professional standards and practice for its members. It also provides general support and advice where required to its members and governments on a range of issues such as biosecurity, wildlife disease and species knowledge.
Our members engage over 17 million visitors and provide education to over 600,000 students each year. They run a plethora of conservation projects at home and overseas. In addition they provide an essential service through their wildlife hospitals. Most importantly they look after their animal collections which include over 1,200 vertebrate species. The Association aims to enhance these activities by enabling and facilitating collaboration across the membership.
The Association is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), where we are able to collaborate with 1,300 other zoos and aquariums linked through the WAZA network. Collectively we seek to contribute to conservation science, animal husbandry and animal welfare.
