At our Wild Cat Conservation Centre in Wilberforce, just outside Sydney, we offer an extraordinary program that will ignite your child’s passion for wildlife conservation and research. The Junior Conservationist Program is designed for young adventurers aged 9 to 13 years, eager to delve into the world of wild cats and make a difference in their preservation.

 

Through this program, your children will embark on an unforgettable journey where they will:

 

  • Engage with an experienced researcher boasting over a decade of involvement in wild cat research in Africa. Our expert will share their knowledge, igniting a spark of curiosity in your child’s heart.
  • Learn telemetry and practice the art of tracking wild cats in Sydney’s most unique wild cat habitat.
  • Create their own personalized cast of a genuine wild cat pug mark/footprint.
  • Observe wild cats as they display their natural hunting and play behaviours.
  • Gain hands-on experience with field measurements on an African wildlife species. Our program offers practical learning, allowing your child to develop essential skills in the realm of conservation.

FAQs

 

What ages does the Junior Conservationist Program cater for?
The Junior Conservationist Program is aimed at children between 9-13 years of age, who have a genuine interest in wildlife and the pursuit of research and conservation. With a maximum of 6 children per program.

 

Is food provided?
Food is not provided and there is not an option to purchase food onsite. Please ensure that your child has packed food with them.

 

Can adults accompany children on the Junior Conservationist Program?
This program is exclusively for children. Due to the unique nature of the Wild Cat Conservation Centre, it is not suitable for general public access, so parents must depart the property once they have dropped their children off, then return at the completion of the program. There are some great options for cafes, wineries, orchards and other experiences in the greater Hawkesbury area.

 

Can my child take photos during the Junior Conservationist Program?
We prefer our guests (and Junior Conservationists!) to immerse themselves fully in the unique experience we are offering, therefore we ask that no cameras be brought onsite. However, a number of high quality photos will be taken by our photographer during the program, which will be made available to you as part of the package.

 

What is the cost of the Junior Conservationist Program?
The Junior Conservationist Program costs $225 per child.

 

What will my child receive as part of this cost?
Each Junior Conservationist will receive:

  • WCCC Research Field Guide
  • Unique plaster pugmark
  • Junior Conservationist Certificate
  • Link to high quality photos from the experience.

 

Please note:

  • This is not a zookeeper for the day program, our focus is on conservation and research techniques, not feeding or playing with animals.
  • A minimum of 4 children is needed for the program to run.
